Privacy & Safety Policy

Your safety is our priority. At WakaWork we are committed to creating a safe, reliable and trustworthy environment for everyone using our platform — both service providers and service seekers. While WakaWork facilitates connections between users, we recognise that interactions, engagements and transactions often happen outside the platform.

i. Our commitment to safety

  • We provide a secure online space for users to connect, view profiles and access basic information about potential service providers or clients.
  • We conduct identity verification for all registered service providers to promote transparency.
  • We offer safety tips and guidelines to help users make informed decisions when engaging with others.
  • We provide a channel to report any concerns, misconduct or safety issues for prompt review and action.

ii. Important safety principles for all users

a. Meet in safe and public locations

  • Always arrange first-time meetings in public, well-lit and busy places.
  • Avoid secluded or private locations for initial meetings or service delivery.

b. Involve a third party if necessary

  • For sensitive services or high-value transactions, consider having a friend, family member or colleague present.
  • Let someone know your whereabouts when meeting a new contact.

c. Trust your instincts

  • If something doesn't feel right, pause and reassess. Do not proceed with any engagement that makes you uncomfortable.

d. Financial transactions

  • WakaWork does not handle or guarantee payments.
  • Always agree clearly on payment terms beforehand and avoid paying the full amount in advance without verifiable work or service.
  • Be cautious of requests for upfront deposits or unusual payment methods.

iii. For service providers: your safety responsibilities

  • Keep your personal safety in mind when visiting clients' homes or workplaces.
  • Verify the client's identity as much as possible before agreeing to any house visit or private service.
  • Share your schedule or job details with someone you trust before heading out for appointments.
  • Report any abusive, fraudulent or threatening behaviour immediately.

iv. For clients: your safety responsibilities

  • Ensure that the service provider's identity and credentials match the information on their WakaWork profile.
  • Avoid inviting service providers into your home if you're alone, especially during late hours.
  • Store valuables securely when hosting a service provider at your residence.
  • Treat service providers with respect and dignity — WakaWork has zero tolerance for harassment, abuse or discrimination.

v. Online privacy and scams

  • Do not share sensitive personal information (e.g. bank details, identification numbers, BVN, passwords) on the platform or with other users.
  • Be wary of fraudulent profiles, suspicious requests or too-good-to-be-true offers.
  • Report any scam attempts to WakaWork immediately via our report and support channels.

vi. Reporting issues and our role

If you encounter suspicious behaviour, harassment, fraud or misconduct, report the incident through our platform or email safety@wakawork.com. While WakaWork cannot physically supervise or guarantee offline interactions, we take every report seriously and may:

  • Suspend or remove user profiles found violating our policies.
  • Notify law enforcement when necessary.
  • Share safety alerts when patterns of harmful behaviour are detected.

vii. Limitation of responsibility

  • WakaWork is a connection platform and does not act as an employer, guarantor or mediator between users.
  • All users are responsible for conducting their own due diligence and making independent decisions about engagements and transactions.
  • By using WakaWork, you accept that offline transactions and interactions are at your own risk, though we remain available to provide guidance and support.

viii. Safety resources and tips

We encourage all users to regularly review our:

  • House Visit Safety Guide (available on our Trust & Safety page)
  • Personal Safety Tips for Service Providers
  • Fraud & Scam Awareness Guide

Together, let's build a safer WakaWork community. Safety is everyone's responsibility. By staying alert, informed and respectful, we can create a thriving community where clients and service providers connect with confidence. Reach us any time at safety@wakawork.com.
